A Peek into Life at Snehagram

     Nestled in the tranquil arms of nature and bordered by hillocks, lies the restful Snehagram compound. But as one enters, the tranquillity is replaced at once by the electrifying youth of the students at Snehagram. Snehagram is synonymous with a home for the students. This is where they live, grow and mature. We volunteers visit every second week in order to accelerate their learning by imparting some of our own knowledge.

Leaving aside the academia for a moment, let us delve into what life is like for the youngsters at Snehagram. Vocational education is imparted to the students who reside here, parallel to their regular syllabus. The unique campus includes sprawling gardens and plots of vegetation, where the students plant and grow their own produce. Organic farming is a skill that is integrated into the program at Snehagram They are taught the basics of agriculture and cultivation, making the compound sustainable. Furthermore, the compound rears animals.  A large chicken shed is present, where the students tend to and rear chickens. Cows are maintained inside the campus, and the students are required to groom, milk and tend to the needs of the cows. All this provide the students with a sense of responsibility and initiative.

Computer training is an important aspect of the education a Snehagram. The campus has its own computer laboratory, where the students are instructed in the ways of handling a computer and operating its various functions and Snehagram intends to give its students the best training they can as an important skill for the coming generation.

Physical development is also important to the coordinators at Snehagram. The students are taught important lessons such as leadership, teamwork and cooperation through the use of sporting activities. Every day, they are allotted sports hours to play games like football and basketball. Another activity that Snehagram is renowned for is running. As the activity is an exertive exercise and improves bodily functioning, the students are trained to run for long distances and to improve their speeds. Many Snehagram students have claimed international renown for winning major marathon events.

The students at Snehagram have been blessed with a facility that intends to care for them and prepare them for the world outside. This has allowed them to overcome their shortcomings and bloom to their full potential.
